I continued to reinforce my decisions yesterday. I need to find a new outlet to get me off the couch and into a healthy lifestyle. I was talking with my sister and she has joined a group who does obstacle racing. She has been training to participate in a 5K Spartan Race at Fenway Park. I have heard enough good things about these races, plus I am a competitive person. I have made my decision to make 2013 my year for obstacle racing. I was very surprised to find that it is a sport that has blown up over the last few years. There are many races like: Rugged Maniac, Tough Mudder, Ruckus, Hero Rush, Fugitive, Jungle Cup, and Spartan Race. These are held nation wide, and they have a very good following. I have made it my mission to participate in these races in 2013. Most of these events will not be until late summer or early fall. There are a few scheduled for spring and early summer.
The first race on the list is the Jungle Cup on April 6, 2013. I have a date now its time to train for it. What is the plan for this overweight, out of shape guy? Well I have been watching several documentaries about nutrition and eating right. I have learned a lot from them. The first one that saw was Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. If you have Netflix it is on there. The summary of the story is a guy with several diseases cures himself by going on a juice fast for what turns out to be 60 days. Check out the site. The next movie was Hungry for Change. It was a great documentary about the way our current eating lifestyle is causing more problems than just obesity. They talk again about the power of juicing in order to detox and reboot our bodies. It was a very good watch. If anyone needs a link to view let me know. I went out and purchased a juicer back in the spring. I did try some of the recipes. I really enjoy an all green vegetable and fruit juice called mean green. It is kale, celery, cucumbers, granny smith apples, spinach, lemon, ginger. When mixed right it is terrific. That is my choice for nutrition in the beginning.
I need to get back to the gym to get back into the groove of working out. I also ran into a trainer when I was working. He is a CrossFit trainer. He spoke to me about what it is and how it could benefit me. I was very interested to say the least. It is a little more expensive, no, way more expensive than what I am paying now for a gym. $145 vs. $20 per month. He made mention that during ever session there is a Crossfit trainer with you. So if I had a trainer 3 time a week $35 / 1/2 hr, that's $400 bucks a month. That my friends turns into a better deal, and they are multi-dimensional. They have crossfit, martial art striking, nutrition classes. There is a money issue right now, but I believe that would be the better choice for me to help me achieve my goals for 2013.
